Beautiful sunshine! What a day! One of those lovely spring days!

115 people responded to my invitation for the 29th Messier sugar shack lunch at the Pavillon de l’érable in St-Jude. As usual, attendees came from various regions of Quebec.

The Association’s Board of Directors was well represented by David Messier (Vice-President), Réjean Messier (Secretary-Treasurer), and Nycole Messier (Board Member). Nearly 30 Association members were present. To think that when I first got involved, very few of us (only two or three) used to attend the lunch. Réjean Messier, the Secretary-Treasurer, mentioned that about ten people took the opportunity to renew their memberships.

I apologize to David for not giving him the floor to say a few words on behalf of the Association. At the end of my presentation, I checked my watch, it was already 12:30 PM. It was time to head into the dining room for lunch, and I completely forgot. I was so focused on what I had to say and on my own personal situation. I apologize for that.

Those present took the opportunity to reminisce and share fond memories. For many, this served as their annual family reunion. We were able to view a series of photos that will appear in my book, which I hope will be released someday. I am still waiting for people to follow through on promises to provide documentation about their families.

After enjoying a delicious meal and excellent service, we spent time outdoors tasting maple taffy, taking a car ride through the woods, having fun with the inflatables, and enjoying a good chat.

We must think about the next generation. Is there anyone among the descendants of Zacharie/Azarie Messier and Catherine Lamoureux willing to take over from me? I won’t be around forever. After 19 years of organizing this event, I need to pass the torch. Please let me know as soon as possible.

Next year’s luncheon is scheduled for Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the same location. Please mark your calendars and let your family members know.
