Annual General Meeting
Association des Familles Messier

Quite a saga! If you have an email address, you’ll remember my last-minute emails before our AGM this year… For everyone else, here’s a quick recap: On the morning of August 16, after confirming with the restaurant that had agreed to host our AGM and brunch, I was confident that everything was ready for a successful general meeting! A dramatic turn of events occurred in the afternoon: the same person I had spoken to that morning called to tell me he had just realized the restaurant opened at 4 p.m. on Sundays and that our reservation was for 10 a.m. He kindly offered to postpone our AGM to 6 p.m., without inconveniencing the other customers who would inevitably arrive for dinner. After a call to Réal (85), who lives in Varennes, he suggested, after checking with the person in charge, that we hold our AGM in the community room of his building. Initially, the members who had responded to our invitation were notified of the change of venue. Subsequently, we thought it best to notify all members with an email address to ensure that if other members wanted to join us that morning, they wouldn’t be turned away! Thank you, Réal and Michèle, for the warm welcome and the last-minute help! When we say, « Turning over a dime, » here’s a perfect example!
Although we only had 6 members present and 3 observers, our entire AGM was conducted in accordance with our association’s bylaws. Good news: At the end of the meeting, one of the observers decided to become a member! Then, after dinner, the group went to Parc du Souvenir and Parc de la Commune to visit the temporary exhibition « Tribute to Founding Families. » Although the day was hot and windy, everyone enjoyed the festive atmosphere surrounding Varennes’ 350th anniversary! On one side of the park, kites flew merrily, while on the other, numerous games delighted children and their parents!
