Significance of the Messier Coat of Arms<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>

The shield, in the French Modern style, is comprised of three sections which are listed as follows :<\/span><\/p>

  • The chef : the top part;<\/span><\/li>
  • The contre chef : under the chef;<\/span><\/li>
  • The abime: the lower, third part. <\/span><\/li><\/ul>

    The chef, top section : in azure blue for point of honour; golden rays of sun symbolizing the Messier\u2019 ardour and tenacity in bringing in the harvest.<\/span><\/p>

    The second section, the contre chef : white and green mountains symbolizing the two seasons \u2013 summer and winter \u2013 as well as the beautiful hills of the Richelieu Valley.<\/span><\/p>

    \u00a0<\/p>

    The lower, third section : in red, the colour of courage and of blood shed by the first settlers of New France. The lines, plow furrows symbolizing the land under cultivaton. <\/span><\/p>

    \u00a0<\/p>

    To the \u201cdestre\u201d are two golden leopards \u2013 climbing, watchful \u2013 the emblem found on the Normandy coat-of-arms, the ancestral home of the Messier. <\/span><\/p>

    \u00a0<\/p>

    To the \u201csenestre\u201d, the \u201cfleur de lys\u201d, emblem of the Kings of France. <\/span><\/p>

    \u00a0<\/p>

    In the centre of the lower section, in gold, three wheat stalks symbolizing Jacques, Michel and Martine who, by their courage, contributed to the expansion of the colony. <\/span><\/p>

    \u00a0<\/p>

    The contour of the shield is in gold and sable black.<\/span><\/p>

    \u00a0<\/p>

    Under the shield is the band, in gold, bearing the inscription <\/span>\u201cMessier\u201d.<\/span><\/p>
